Hi Rachel, first things first, please can you introduce yourself!

I am a textile designer, author and interior artist/stylist from Fife in Scotland.

Please tell us more about your stunning home and how @therachelhendersonstudio came about?

We purchased our home 1.5 years ago - a two story 70’s villa in need of a massive makeover. We’ve been very slowly renovating it, adding lots of character, injecting colour and pattern wherever possible and upcycling all of the furniture that was left to us by the previous owners. It’s been great to document everything on Instagram and share lots of progress reels and before and after’s – the feedback from everyone has been so positive!

I actually started my Instagram account quite a few years ago as a way of showcasing my own textile creations and projects from my crafts books, but now it’s a mix of everything! I predominantly use it to inspire people - sharing lots of my own creative DIY and interior ideas, as well as designs I’ve created for clients.

Please could you describe your interior style, has it always been the same or has it evolved over time?

I have always loved creating vibrant spaces with warm and joyful colour palettes, but recently my love for colour and pattern has reached a whole new level and I’m definitely using it more than I used to.

I’m a lot braver (and bolder!) in my approach to interior design now.

What brands or trends inspire you or your house purchases?

I tend not to follow trends, but I do love a tropical/botanical theme! My favourite brands/designers are Kitty McCall, Lucy Tiffney and Zoe Murphy.

What interior Instagram accounts inspire you, could you name your top 3?

We love your home and especially the use of bright colours! Do you have any tips on how to style vibrant colour?

If decorating with bold hues I always tell my clients to repeat their chosen colours throughout the space, that way they won’t look too garish. For example, if you go for a really bold wallpaper, pull out some of those colours and repeat through your accessories (cushions/vases/candles/plant pots) and everything will flow really nicely. I often break up colour with plants, if you dot some around your room the colour won’t seem so intense!

Please tell us about your colourful homeware collection, which item was the most fun to create and do you have any plans to design more?

My favourite product is my monstera leaves, my best sellers – it was such a fun process selecting the colours, coming up with the stitched design and adding the 3D stems.

I am currently working on ideas for children’s furniture that will incorporate my own prints, I hope to launch these later in the year which I am very excited about!

Well done for being Scotland’s home of the year runner up, could you please tell us how you found the experience?

It was quite surreal having people judge your home, and also very nerve-wracking, but thankfully they scored us high and gave such positive feedback which we were so delighted about. It’s one of my favourite TV shows, I find it so inspiring to see how other homeowners inject personality into their interiors!

What's your favourite home purchase you have made

recently and is there anything on your wishlist?

I bought a beautiful Lex Pot candle for our new dining room recently, I’ve had my eye on his designs for quite some time now. It’s neon pink and it adds such a lovely burst of colour to the space!

My wishlist is humungous and evergrowing 😊. We are just about to start work on our bathroom and I’ve bookmarked lots of brightly coloured accessories from Oliver Bonas (one of my favourite shops!).

And finally what does the future hold for @therachelhendersonstudio is there anything left up your sleeve?

I always have so many plans, but the main project I am working on right now is an online colour membership – I’ll be sharing more on that soon 😉
