LIV Chats To… Maximalist Décor Loving Interior Blogger Ella About Her Beautifully Unique New Build Home

This week we're chatting to ella from @ellashausofcolour - her style is a maximalist's dream! A one-of-a-kind home that is sure to make a statement.

Hi Ella, first things first, please can you introduce yourself?

My name is Ella, I’m a 34 year old mum of two boys. My partner Paul and his daughter also frequently get pulled into any new interior projects that I come up with. I live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

Please tell us more

about your stunning

home and how @ellashausofcolour

came about?

I live in a 3 bed semi-detached new build home. The house was build in 2021, the same year I moved in. I knew from day one that I didn’t want to live in a generic white box. I followed a few home accounts with my personal Instagram account and decided that I was going to document my own home journey. The first post was in April 2021.

Please could you describe your interior style? has it always been the same or has it evolved over time?

Looking back now (I know it hasn’t been long) I was fairly safe in terms of colours to begin with. I was always interested in maximalism and would class my style as eclectic maximalism. Over the last 18 months I’ve redecorated quite a bit, extended my gallery wall and added an extra gallery wall in my hallway.

What brands or trends inspire you or your home purchases?

I love a good Facebook Market place or charity shop haul, anything that I can up-cycle, repurpose and add my own touch to. Other than that I try to shop from small independent businesses as much as possible.

What interior Instagram accounts inspire you, could you name your top 3?

Naming a top three is difficult, there are so many amazing interior accounts.

I’ll have to go with three accounts I followed from day one and that inspired my love for maximalism, colourful interiors, animal print (top secret I admire moody interiors but could never see it in my home) :

Lois - @colourfulleopard

Siobhan - @interiorcurve

Glen - @inside.number.twelve

We love your colour schemes! Especially the retro wallpaper,  Do you have any tips for our followers on how to achieve a maximalist look?

My top tip would be to create a mood board, add all the colours and textures you like. Plan your accessories and be mindful to repeat colours, patterns and textures throughout your interior / room to make sure it all ties in together.

What is your go-to interior trick… if you have one?

If you can afford a decorator go ahead and hire one… I’m all for painting and planning and being hands on, but painting ceilings and wallpapering is not for me.

My living room was decorated by GG Decorating, he helped make the whole processe smooth without any errors and it meant I could concentrate on capturing content.

If you had to change one thing in your home, what would it be and why?

My kitchen. It hardly features on my grid because I really don’t like it!! It’s a standard white kitchen that comes with a new build home. There’s nothing to like about it and nothing that makes it stand out. The same goes for my bathroom, although I have painted it blue and added lots of accessories, as well as changing the bath panel, but if I had the budget I’d change the whole bathroom.

What's your favourite home purchase you have made recently and is there anything on your wish-list?

There’s no recent purchase I’d say is my favourite, I have received some lovely Christmas presents including a London brick vase that I have wanted for ages.

Something I really want is a new bed and new mattress.

And finally, what does the future hold for @ellashausofcolour, is there anything left up your sleeve?

2023 will be the year of upcycles, I have furniture that I’d like to brighten up and maybe vinyl wrap the kitchen?
