Hi Marisa, first things first, please can you introduce yourself?

Hi! I’m Marisa, I’m an interior designer and stylist from York.

Please tell us more about your stunning home and how

@oakappledecor

came about?

Oak Apple Decor is the company owned by myself and my husband Chris. We provide a range of services from interior design to construction.

I originally started the Instagram page for the company but it turned into more of a blog of the renovation of our own home and style. We bought our barn conversion in 2015 and it’s an ongoing project.

Please could you describe your interior style, has it always been the same or has it evolved over time?

I always find this a hard question because my style is a real mix.

It’s definitely changed over time, our last house was a new build so everything was modern whereas with this house I have more rustic elements and antique pieces to reflect the character of the building but I still love to add modern pieces as well.

Adding vintage or handmade pieces can really help elevate a space and make it a bit more special.

What brands or trends inspire you or your house purchases?

I do love a trend but I try not to follow them too much as I normally go off things if they get too popular! I’m normally drawn to any trends that are textural such as rattan, reeded texture or Bouclé.

Brands I love include Soho Home, made.com and Ferm living.

What interior Instagram accounts inspire you, could you name your top 3?

I love to follow aspirational accounts.

At the moment my favourites are:

1. @eyeswoon

2. @jakearnold

3.@kellywearstler

We adore the way you style every room in the house, especially the way you use pops

of colour to brighten up the space. Do you have any tips for our followers on how to

achieve a stylish home?

Thanks so much! Try to stick to a similar aesthetic throughout, so similar colour palette and styling. I think if you have a character property it’s important to be sympathetic to the style of house and if you are adding character to a new build, try and stick to the same style throughout. Adding vintage or handmade pieces can really help elevate a space and make it a bit more special.

We love watching your DIY tricks saved on your highlights! Do you have have any good

tips for our readers?

Thank you!

I think before doing any DIY make sure you’ve done your research and have watched lots of videos so you know what you’re doing, and it makes things a lot easier if you have everything you need beforehand.

A really easy and time saving tip is to invest in a pole extension for your paint roller, it makes painting so much quicker.

We love the look of your outside kitchen area, do you have a

favourite space to relax in?

The garden room is the perfect space to relax on warm sunny days. In winter the lounge is so nice and cosy as we have a wood burner in there!

What's your favourite home purchase you have made

recently and is there anything on your Wishlist?

I recently purchased an antique terracotta urn from Home Barn which I love. And my wish list is pretty endless but at the moment the Gubi 9602 floor lamp and a berber rug are up there!

And finally what does the future hold for

@oakappledecor,

is there anything left up your

sleeve?

In our house we have 2 more bathrooms, a gym, utility and snug (coming very soon) still to renovate; and lots of exciting client projects to share.

We are also renovating an old chapel (@the_chapel_renovation) which will hopefully be finished in the next few months.
