8 of the Most Popular Kitchen Trends for 2021

With trends for 2021 a hot topic in interiors at the moment, it’s hard to digest the many varying opinions, so we’ve pulled together our top 8 kitchens trends that we feel are going to be big next year. Read on for our take on the trends that have got us most excited

 1.

Serious About Sage – Green in the Kitchen

We’re loving sage. Injecting this timeless shade into the kitchen ensures a fresh and uplifting scheme. Following on from the trend for enhancing health and wellbeing in 2020, sage echoes the feelings of being amongst nature. This shade brings the outdoors in and we feel it emits a calming and soothing feeling when used in the kitchen. Working in perfect harmony with other trending colours including earthy warm tones, pops of peony pinks and contrasting blues, sage green provides an uplifting, yet peaceful interior.

2. Take it High – Tall Kitchen Units

Storage has always been important to consider in the kitchen, but it seems that it’s now more important than ever. Gone are the days when we pop to the shops for a few bits for dinner, we’re now used to online deliveries and ‘click and collect’ services which have freed up so much of our time. This means the kitchen now has to function well as we have plenty of space for all those tinned goods and experimental flavours for Saturday nights spent in. We’ve been seeing lots of bespoke kitchen units popping up lately, with units taken right to the very tip of the ceiling, which not only helps to draw the eye up, but it also creates an illusion of space and ensures there’s room for pots and pans too.

3. Pantry Love

We’ve been swooning over pantries for a little while now. We think it’s because they look SO organised, how dreamy would it be to have all your baking goods and dried foods in neatly displayed Kilner jars? House goals! The return of the pantry has been on the rise in 2020 and we expect this to continue into 2021, with home projects and house buyers seeking additional kitchen space for stock piling (but not panic buying!) food for the family. Check out our favourite pantries below for a little inspiration.

4. Hide it Away – Clever Storage

We’re not fans of cluttered worktops. They look messy and don’t do any good for the soul. Removing unnecessary clutter from worktops will help clear the mind, leaving you with a more calming kitchen space. As we know, storage is important, but good storage is even better – think allocated sweets draws, dedicated crisp sections and even hanging slots for your gin glasses, the more organised and practical your cupboards are the less units you need and the more space you can free up in your kitchen.

5. Downdraft Extractors

Extractor fans are being reimagined for kitchens of the future, with the trend for whisking away cooking odours at the source. Gone are the days where cooking smells will flow through every room in the home, it’s time to suck them away from the start. This is particularly beneficial if you want to add your hob to a kitchen island for more social cooking, as extractor hoods don’t really work here. A downdraft extractor allows you to tap into the trend for minimalism.

6. White Marble Mania – Classic Kitchens

White kitchens are going to be popular in 2021. Chic and contemporary, they’re also a more hygienic choice as it’s easier to spot dirt and grime. To add depth to the kitchen, opt for a marble, or marble-effect surface to add a little wow to your kitchen. Doyeon Kim, Marketing Associate at Staron states, “Many marble-effect surfaces have blends of natural minerals and thermosetting acrylic polymers, which result in durable, non-porous and seamless surfaces, which are both hardwearing and hygienic in equal measure.” There are plenty of look-alike options available if marble is over your budget - try Wickes for some good alternatives.

7. Drop the Lights – Kitchen Lighting

More than just a necessity, pendant lights are popular decorative features above kitchen islands and dining tables. From exposed cables and opaque light bulbs to copper shades and stone like spheres, there’s a huge variety of pendant lights to choose from that will bring your kitchen bang up to date in 2021. 8. Heritage Accessories

With advancements in technology, new brassware and accessory finishes can make all the difference to your kitchen. From gold and aged copper taps, to bronze handles and hinges, heritage charm will prove popular in 2021 as people seek to add a little character to their kitchens.
