5 of the Most Popular Interiors Trends to Look Out For in 2022

With 2022 just around the corner, why not start thinking about how you can update your home in the New Year. Well, look no further, as we have pulled together our top 5 trends that we see gaining serious momentum in the coming months...

A BRIGHTER HOME WITH PANTONE

Pantone has released its much-anticipated colour palette for 2022 – and next year is looking brighter than ever! A collection of tones that combine ‘comfort with free-spirited optimism’ to prompt a craving for adventure, Pantone has showcased ten significant colours, stemming from designs at New York Fashion Week, as well as five ‘core classics’. Our favourites are Popcorn, Coral Rose and Potpourri, which are only a handful of the collection.

We are hoping to see these playful pops of colour to grace not only the fashion world but the interiors world too for spring and summer.

RETRO REVIVAL

Curved bedheads, terrazzo tiles and dynamic wallpapers. 2022 is looking to be the year of the retro throwback with popular design trends from the 1960s, 70s and 80s making their way into our home. With popular TV shows such as Netflix’s Sex Education celebrating the style of 1970s interiors, we expect our homes next year to do the same - from rounded shapes across furniture and lighting, to bold patterned wallpapers and rugs, to warm orange hues on our walls and across soft furnishings.

BE AT ONE WITH NATURE

Natural materials and fabrics, nature-inspired design and our ongoing obsession with house plants has continued to gain popularity in the last several years, and we expect it to continue into the new year. With many of us still working from home, we want more warmth and comfort in our space, a sense of cosiness to create a softer work / life balance and the ability to offset the technology which is now at home with us. Expect to see organic materials such as rattan, jute and linen appear in rugs, furniture and fun storage solutions.

THE NEED FOR A MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACE

Single use spaces are a thing of the past. As our homes and offices have merged since the start of the pandemic, we need both a functional working environment and a comfortable space to wind down after a busy day. Our rooms need to serve more than one purpose and we expect this to continue into 2022 – from convertible furniture to making the most of every nook and cranny in the home to create a stylish home office. Separate your spaces with fun wallpapers or even a bold rug to break up the space in a living room.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

Waste not, want not – the importance of sustainability is everywhere and will continue to be into the new year. Interiors brands are now doing more to minimise their carbon footprint and are being more creative in their approach when designing collections. Sofa brand Swyft now use 100% recyclable packaging materials and luxury interiors company Heal’s have recently launched their ‘recycled, remade’ collection, with pieces made from salvaged ocean waste, glass and plastic bottles.

In addition, ‘flipping furniture’ is having its own moment, made popular by social apps such as TikTok, where eBay and Facebook Marketplace are proving popular goldmines for second hand furniture which can be transformed and reused in your home.
