We love an interior design hack at LIV for Interiors. You won’t believe the amazing things you can make from items that you might already have in your home. With our handy tips, tricks and cheats you’ll find yourself saving a small fortune on new furniture... what’s not to love about that!

How simple is this! Just sew together two of the same placemat and fill with stuffing to create a super cheap and unique cushion. Choose from woven raffia, cotton or crochet placemats, or combine a textured mixture in colours of your choice for a seriously stylish boho scheme.

Make a focal point with this clever way to use old bed slats. Suitable for use in the bathroom, kitchen or living spaces, this nifty trick is great for those short on space and looks awesome too! Add a few hooks to hang pots, plants, clipboards and more, and for living spaces, drape over a few of your favourite interior magazines.

A curtain pole has many more uses than for just hanging curtains. Position above cookers for a place to hang pots, pans and oven gloves. For the bathroom, style it with your wash brushes, soaps and a few on-trend grasses for a rustic interior scheme. Short on cupboard space? Pop it under a kitchen unit and add a few simple hooks to hang your mugs from - genius!

Transform a drab boring old shelving piece into a bespoke fitted utility room! Simply turn the shelving unit on its side, paint it in a colour of your choice, add a wooden top and bingo! One gorgeous bench! Complete the look with some on-trend panelling, a few handy coat hooks and finish with a simple wooden shelf for your hats and some decorative plants.

If you’ve bought new placements, don’t just throw away your old ones. Cork placements make a wonderful change from a standard rectangular design. Simply give them a lick of paint and hang them on the wall for a fun way to display your invitations and letters.

How clever is this? Just add a supportive base and some legs, either from an old sideboard or picked up from the local salvage yard and hey presto! A brand new modern table perfect for applying your make up.

You can pick up a picture ledge from as little as £8 from Homebase. Just give it a lick of your favourite Farrow & Ball paint and pop all your spices in Kilner jars, for a stylish and practical addition to your cooking space.
