LIV Chats To… Floral Décor Loving Interior Blogger Emma About Her Fabulous Farmhouse Home

This week we're chatting to Emma from @TallulahCottage - her style mixes clashes of colour, bold prints and plenty of house plants!

Hi , first things first, please can you introduce yourself?

Hi, my name is Emma and I’m a therapeutic intervention worker at a special needs school. I live with my 19 year old daughter Poppy and my 9 year old son Ralph. We live in Shropshire in a beautiful Duke of Sutherland cottage that I rent on a farm surrounded by fields.

Please tell us more

about your stunning

home and how @TallulahCottage

came about?

My dad suddenly passed away two weeks before the first major lockdown! I’d never been truly happy in my previous home so started to look for other properties to rent and came across Tallulah Cottage… Moving was the best thing I ever did and definitely helped my grieving process, allowing me to throw myself into my love of interiors and painting.

Please could you describe your interior style? has it always been the same or has it evolved over time?

My style is always evolving and I’m often inspired by different Instagram accounts.

My favourites are @isahlin, @nordwind.hygge and @sansnovazuhause.

I’m very drawn to German accounts and their interior style and this is something I want to create in my home, along with inspiration from my love of Greek architecture and all the lush bright crisp colours they use.

We love your home and especially the use of bright colours! Do you have any tips on how to style vibrant colours?

Using bright colours in your home can be a scary thought. My top tip would be to have one accent colour that you like and work around that, adding texture and more colour through cushions, throws and for me – flowers and plants. Go with your gut and don’t be afraid! If you find it’s not actually what you want you can always paint over and start again.

What is your go-to interior trick… if you have one?

Before I start styling a space, I’ll start to create the image I want in my head, making sure all the props I want are at hand and ready to use… I have a huge basket that I pop everything into. When styling, start simple, stand back, assess and then add bits as you go along, finally creating the look you want… my go-to’s are layering, plants, flowers and lots of texture!

Sneaky top tip for a good photo… I never get on with my tripod so instead, I use a baked beans tin and attach my phone to it with an elastic band! Your phone doesn’t wobble and stays in the exact place you want it to.

If you had to change one thing in your home, what would it be and why?

I have a separate toilet to my bathroom and if I could change anything I’d knock the wall down to create one large bathroom space, sadly I can’t do this as I rent my property.

And finally, what does the future hold for @tallulahcottage, is there anything left up your sleeve?

Moving forward I am having a brand new look in my living room area that I’m hoping to start soon! The look will be very different to what I have at the moment.

Being a single mum, funds are often an issue, so I have to be creative with my styling and source most of my furniture from second-hand stores and Facebook marketplace!
