Green: The New Grey
Whilst the title suggests that the formidable tone of grey is no longer ‘de rigueur’, this is not the case and we can say, with some certainty, that grey will remain a staple colour of choice for the foreseeable future in our homes! BUT, for just one moment, we would like to indulge in another colour trend that is set to make its way into our homes this year, and yes, could potentially rival the powerhouse grey that has taken the interiors world by storm for the past…well ages!
The colour we’re talking about is GREEN. Not acidic chartreuse or the blue-y shades of jade or mint, but a much softer, earthier green that, to be honest, isn’t a world away from what we’ve been accustomed to with the grey palette. As you breathe a sign of relief, safe in the knowledge that the grey-inspired décor your whole home is covered in won’t need replacing, here’s why we think green is a new rival for the colour crown in 2016.
With favour drawing away from minimalist and unassuming interiors, it’s predicted that we’ll be looking to nature for our colour palette in the coming seasons. With inspiration driven by the tones and textures of the outdoors, green offers the perfect platform for creating a soothing yet uplifting scheme. Coinciding with the trend for eco and botany-inspired homes, mid tones of sage, moss and pine green ignite a real sense of ‘home’ and lived-in serenity. Paired with natural surfaces, tactile textiles and the odd colour accent – look to the garden for inspiration here – green provides the ideal transition from the comfort of grey, and works surprisingly well with most colours in the home, making it an effortless trend to incorporate into the home.
As a specialist interiors blog, we are fortunate to have US paint brand Benjamin Moore on our books; a new brand to the UK whose colour offering spans over 3,500 shades! Sifting through more than 600 green tones on offer (668 to be exact), our eyes were drawn to four particular hues that we felt echoed the trend perfectly: Garden Path, Healing Aloe, High Park and Pinelands. With the help of our in-house photographer Jason, we got a little creative with a paintbrush and photographed some inspiring shots to emulate this trend.
