Top 4 Paint Trends for 2019

In recent years bright bold expressions of colour have begun to infiltrate our homes – think Gen Z Yellow and Millennial Pink. However the latest trends for 2019 are full of subdued, comforting tones intended to introduce a sense of calm and serenity into our increasingly stressful lives. For many this will be a welcome transition, as we know how difficult incorporating bright colour into your home can be.

Valspar – Comforting Blues

Valspar’s collection of blues allows you to make a statement without having to commit to a bright colour scheme. These deep-hued gem tones are the perfect alternative to the increasingly popular bright colours we have been seeing in recent months. For Valspar, 2019 is all about creating balance in your life through your interior design by combining the different hues of this calming palette.

Jason de Kauwe, Marketing Communication Manager at Valspar:

“Shades of blue connote feelings of calm and serenity and it’s often the colour we look to when trying to balance our fast-paced lifestyles. Blue can also provide a sense of escapism due to its association with the sky and the ocean. With Valspar’s choice of over 2,000 pre-set colours, you can get lost in choosing the right blue for you.”

Dulux – Spiced Honey

The warm, inviting hue of Dulux’s Colour of the Year focuses on renewing optimism and light after a year of unsettling unpredictability. The four Spiced Honey palettes expand on this theme with Think, Dream, Love and Act being described as “the trends that capture a new spirit of resilience and optimism in a world that had us retreating to our homes and hiding behind the sofa in 2018” –  Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director for the Dulux brand in the UK. We’ll be pairing Spiced Honey with burgundy shades and soft pinks to create an inviting palette of warming neutrals.

Benjamin Moore – Metropolitan Grey AF-690

Leading American paint brand Benjamin Moore’s offering for Colour of the Year, Metropolitan AF-690 is a soft grey designed to introduce a calming, balanced sensibility into our homes. The versatility of this shade means its balanced, neutral tones can be integrated into any pre-existing colour schemes. Our favourite combinations feature the subdued grey balancing deep greens and blues or tying together pale pinks and blues to create a calming neutral palette.

Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore Director of Strategic Design Intelligence.

“Metropolitan AF-690 exudes beauty and balance. It’s a colour in the neutral spectrum that references a contemplative state of mind and design. Not arresting nor aggressive, this understated yet glamorous grey creates a soothing, impactful common ground.”

Farrow & Ball – 9 new colours for 2019

And finally, rather than naming just one Colour of the Year, UK paint brand Farrow & Ball has opted to introduce 9 new paint colours for 2019. The latest Farrow & Ball colours range from daring pinks and deep reds – Ringwali and Preference Red – to more understated, neutrals that bring the natural beauty of the outside in – Treron and School House White are just a couple of our favourites.

While we think the colours will look beautiful in any home, we especially love the idea of a Sulking Room Pink and School House White nursery. Pop into your nearest branch to pick up a free colour card and experience the new colours in person.
